"American Gothic" is one of the most parodied paintings in history and Saturday Night Live is one of the most famous parody TV shows of all time, it made sense to create an illustration where two of the cast members portrayed the characters from the painting.
For this illustration I used three images as reference, one for each character and an other one of the painting, I did a quick digital collage with this images and started tracing over the picture. Once I got everything traced I started coloring and adding transparencies untill I got to the final result.
